DJI Osmo 360 II Global Release Features Replaceable Lenses Starting Mid September

Developers that adore panoramic 360-degree videos now have something to look forward to. DJI has announced the worldwide release of the Osmo 360 II, the camera will be shipped on September 15 in regions outside the US. The new Osmo 360 improves much on the first version of the camera, mostly when it comes to performance in the video department and includes a very practical feature change, resulting in addressing a serious pain point of panoramic actioncams. The most notable upgrade is the introduction of user replaceable lenses.

The camera’s fixed fisheye domes would often get scratched during rough mishaps in the mud or snow, and when they did, the entire camera was rendered useless until repairs could be performed. The Osmo 360 II addresses this problem with a new design of the lens that incorporates a high-strength optical film to withstand abuse. When the lens becomes in need of repair, the owner can simply replace it. It is that simple, and the mean time-to-repair is as low as twenty minutes.

This simple enhancement turns the camera from an expensive, delicate piece of scientific precision equipment into a durable and sturdy camera that can be brought mountain biking snowboarding scuba diving or even touring around the world. Imaging also advances. The Osmo 360 II has the same double square imaging devices which can shoot a native 8K video at 60fps, providing a wide 360 degree view of a scene from an Ultra One inch sensor. Extended dynamic range is now at 14.

5 stops, an improved AI SuperNight 2.0 algorithm assists in capturing clean low-light video with minimal noise levels. Photographers have the ability to stop a frame of time at a time resolution of a 120-megapixel HDR 360-degree still, and a time-lapse gets an even higher 16K resolution. All of these formats provide a 10-bit color depth with D Log M.

The physical design is sleek and functional. The body is 183 g and features 105 GB of integral storage, expandable by microSD; it’s rated for depths of up to 10 meters without a case, and through an Invisible Waterproof Case, can plunge a good bit deeper. The battery life will handle around 100 minutes of uninterrupted recording at 8K, 30 fps, and boasts rapid chargingaccumulating 80 percent of its reserve in around 22 minutes. or the longer shoots, the optional Battery Extension Rod will extend the run-time.

Stabilization is managed by the continued use of RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady while an array of four microphones allow for clearer sound that is unaffected by wind noise. Additional new conveniences include NFC for fast pairing with the DJI Mimo app, more comprehensive tracking modes, and the options of gesture controls or voice commands. Editing experiences are further enhanced with increased software support, including a plugin for professional editing software such as DaVinci Resolve.

Standard Combo Packages Cost begin at 589 in Europe and 509 in the UK. A higher-end Adventure Combo with additional batteries and accessories is also available. The camera will not be released in U.S market initially due to the delayed nature of certification. Visitors to this years IFA in Berlin can get an early hands-on experience of the Osmo 360 II courtesy of DJI. The main selling point for the TX1 over other cameras is the lens, which can be changed in the field by the user. For a good number of users, simply having this at their disposal make the purchase worthwhile. Action and adventure photography takes a toll on gear, and being able to continue shooting after something goes wrong in an instant makes a lot of sense.
