OnePlus has unveiled its newest flagship device, the OnePlus 16, in China, and it brings a considerable increase in battery size, display technology and camera hardware. This is a device targeted at users who need a reliable, high-performance device for gaming, multitasking, and entertainment without having to grab a charger often.
The new phone follows the OnePlus 15 and comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB storage. Its release also shows how premium Android makers are ramping up the size of their batteries and screens in tandem with high-end silicon.
OnePlus 16 battery the OnePlus 16 is said to have a massive 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is much bigger than the 7,300mAh battery on its predecessor. This boost might give the phone the endurance to sustain gaming, streaming videos, navigation, and other power-hungry tasks for a bit longer.
The handset offers 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, providing users with two options for recharging the battery. Actual battery life will vary based on factors like screen brightness, network conditions, gaming activity, and background apps, so battery capacity alone does not determine how long the phone will last during typical use.
Manufacturers are adopting the silicon-carbon battery technology to offer more capacity without increasing the size of a larger traditional battery. The silicon-carbon technology in the phone’s battery is part of the greater industry effort to boost battery life while keeping the slim profile a signature of flagship phones.
Inside the chipset is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, which is based on a 2-nanometre manufacturing process. This chipset is supposed to provide advances in computing, graphics, and artificial intelligence processing.
For users, these features could mean faster multitasking, more powerful mobile gaming, and more snappy AI-enabled features. Plus, the company has built an improved cooling system for the phone, complete with a vapour chamber, which the firm claims performs 40% better than the previous implementation.
While gaming is a workload where processor performance is just as important as peak speeds, this new feature will be more noticeable for how well it performs. For example, you might see less of a decline in performance over long periods of gaming, although results will vary based on the title, environment, and configuration.
The OnePlus 16 is equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display that offers a resolution of 1,272 by 2,772 pixels. In certain gaming scenarios, the refresh rate can reach up to 185Hz. The system interface supports operation at up to 165Hz, which allows for smoother scrolling, animations, and compatible games compared to standard 60Hz displays.
Even though a high refresh rate can boost responsiveness in rapid-fire games, not all apps and games will run at the maximum setting. Your phone may also not be able to hit 185 frames per second based on the game and performance.
