How to Maintain Healthy Feet and Manage Your Bunions

Bunions can sometimes turn your life into a living nightmare. This painful bump on your foot makes it almost impossible to wear shoes and walk. Without making an effort to keep your bunions in check, there is a good chance you might have to make do with bunion surgery. After all, this is the only viable treatment for bunions.

Fortunately, you can avoid bunion surgery by maintaining healthy feet. You might be wondering how this is even possible in the first place. Below are a few tips to help your prevent bunions or stop them from getting worse.

Shop for Shoes in the Evening

The shoes you wear can either make your bunions worse or help ease the pain. To avoid complicating the already worse situation, make sure you put on the right shoes. One of the best ways to go about this is by shopping for shoes in the evening. This is because your feet tend to sweat during the day, so, they are the biggest in the evening.

Be sure to buy shoes that feel comfortable from the very moment you buy them You can even walk around with the shoes on to see if they feel comfortable and fit well. If not, there is no essence of paying for them in the first place.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

The weight of your body also plays a vital role when looking forward to preventing or stopping bunions from getting worse.  Well, your weight puts pressure on your feet every time you walk. If you happen to be overweight, you will subject your foot and big toe-joint to more pressure than they can withstand. The higher the pressure you place on these two, the higher the chances of developing bunions.

Final Thoughts

It is in your best interest that you take good care of your feet if you are to prevent bunions or other problems. No wonder you should look into the shoes you wear as they must be comfortable and fitting. Furthermore, do everything it takes to keep your body weight in check to avoid putting more pressure on your feet.

If nothing seems to be working, it might be the right time to visit a bunion clinic and get the appropriate treatment. In most cases, this would be bunion surgery as it is the last resort when everything else fails.
